“Life is Short, Then What?”
Greetings to all my brothers and sisters in Christ,
Ecclesiastes 1:2-4 ” ‘Meaningless! Meaningless!‘ says the Teacher. ‘Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.’ What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.”
King Solomon wrote these words some 3000 years ago. He was the richest man on the planet then and now. “therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.” (2 Chronicles 1:12) He had everything and anything he ever wanted, so he thought.
No matter what his heart desired, he could have it. No matter what he accomplished, it never seemed to have lasting contentment. He was always eventually left unsatised. Wealth, education, construction projects, wine, women and song. He tried it all. And always ended up with the same conclusion when it was over: MEANINGLESS, MEANINGLESS, UTTERLY MEANINGLESS!
He nally came to his senses after wasting a larger part of his life trying to nd meaning without God.Only life having a close relationship with God in it, will bring lasting contentment.
We see in our world today many people who seem to have it all, but still are unhappy. Their lives are plagued with all kinds of self-made destructive consequences. From the choices they make to seeking fulllment and meaning in their lives without God. Divorce, greed, sex, abortion, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, prescription drug abuse, selshness, resentment, envy, anger, jealousy, etc.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” God put a longing for eternal life in each of us. God wants a close personal relationship with you for eternity.
King Solomon wrote these words after failing to ï¬?nd contentment and meaning through on his own. “Now all has been heard; here is he conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
LIFE IS SHORT, THEN WE GET TO GO TO HEAVEN!
Love, your brother in Christ,
Chris Chloupek
