Women’s Day 2007

Dream Girls

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3: 20-21

God has done more than we can possibly ask or imagine! When the eighteen sisters of the Phoenix International Christian Church decided to host our first Women’s Day, we committed to pray everyday, asking God to bless the day and help each of the sisters bring a friend to participate in the event. On April 21st, at 9:00 A.M. Women’s Day started. Theresa Broom, Women’s Ministry Leader of the Chicago International Christian Church, preached an incredible message about women in the Bible who lived out God’s dream. Two sisters then shared their testimonies, Dawn Klecka, a sister who was baptized about a month ago, and Deana Blowe, a disciple for over 20 years. Moved by the openness of these women and the songs sung by our own Grace Droblas and Kelsey Campbell, ten of the women asked to study the Bible or get baptized. God truly did an incredible thing!

During the planning of Women’s Day, the sisters in the Phoenix Church reminded me of Queen Esther, who understood that she had “come to royal position for such a time as this (to save the Jews). Esther 4:14. Queen Esther was willing to take a stand in order to save the Jews who had been sentenced to death because of the king’s edict – even if it cost her her life. The sisters here have that heart. They understand they live in this time and this place so that they can save the women of this city and this world, no matter what the price. This is a tall order, and yet if we look at how Esther responded to the call, we will see how all sisters should respond to God’s call.

Queen Esther, when she felt challenged by God’s call for her to save the Jews, turned to prayer and fasting and asked the rest of the Jews to do the same. She got her strength, faith and security from God. Our strength, faith and security must come first from an incredible relationship with God. Secondly, Esther wrestled with God in prayer until her heart was the same as God’s heart, just like Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Matthew 26:39-46) He wrestled until He as able to say to God “may your will be done. Matthew 26:42 We must wrestle with God until our will is His will, until our purpose in life is the same as His. We too must be able to say “your will be done” or in modern day vernacular, not the way I want it but the way you want it, without any qualms or hesitations. Third, Queen Esther was willing to speak up to save the many, even at the expense of her own life. We must be willing to speak up about Jesus at any time to anyone no matter what the cost.

John 4:35 says, “Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’ I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Women in every city in the world are waiting to be saved. Let’s open our eyes!
